NTR Computer Thrift Store

Frequently Asked Questions

When are you open?

Monday through Friday, 10am 'til 6pm.

You're not open on weekends?

We were open on Saturdays, 10am-4pm, until May 2012, when we reluctantly decided to close because we couldn't comfortably keep making our people work 6 days a week. If and when we resolve the staffing issue, we'll be happy to re-open Saturdays.

Where are you located?

We have a complete page of directions that will guide you right here.

Do you sell laptops?

Yes we do, but since we're a thrift store, the selection varies. We'd hate for you to come all the way here for nothing, so we recommend that you give us a call (215-564-6686) to make sure we have some for you to see.

How much are laptops?

Most of our laptops run from $199, for a basic model, to $500 for a high-end or later model. We often have laptops in the $220-$230 range.

When are you getting more laptops in?

Call ahead (215-564-6686) on the day you want to come in, and we'll tell you what we have in stock that day. What happens is that we get our computers by donations. We refurbish them and put them on the shelves as fast as we can. Once they're on the shelves, they sell right away, because we have the huge student population of Community College of Philadelphia only a few blocks away. Laptops sell as fast as we can build them.

Do you do repairs?

Yes we do! Have a look at our list of repair services if you'd like to find out more about what services are available.

Do you fix Apple/Macintosh machines?

Yes.

How much is a repair?

The extent of repairs can vary widely, but it's pretty typical to charge a $45 fee for diagnosis, then, after the technician diagnoses your computer problem, they call you within 3 to 5 business days, and you proceed from there.

My computer is old. Can you upgrade it, like, add memory and stuff like that?

Yes. Our repair services do include hardware upgrades, memory installation, computer optimization, and so forth.

I'd like to sell you my old computer. Would you buy it?

No. NTR does take equipment donations, though. Have a look at Ways to Give: Equipment for details.

Where does all the money go?

After paying our store employees and other store expenses, proceeds go to support the various programs of Nonprofit Technology Resources.

Do you sell software?

Yes, we do have a variety of software titles. But we do not sell Microsoft's operating systems (ie. XP, Vista, etc.) and our selection of popular software is very limited and not organized well enough for us to know what is there. The stuff in our bins is mostly old games and software that no one has ever heard of.

If you are looking for a particular software title, we probably can not help you.

Do you sell Apple/Macintosh computers?

Yes. But the range of available machines is limited. Call (215-564-6686) to find out what's here.

Do you sell Apple laptops?

Yes, but they're hard to come by. Call (215-564-6686) before you come, to see if we have any on hand.
